I'm Photosynthesizing

"I'm Photosynthesizing" consists of a thrifted painting of flowers in a field, pool noodles, cupboard liner, yarn, string, reusable bags, and acrylic paint. Like the flowers in the original painting – although ripped, shredded, and painted over – I like to imagine I am photosynthesizing. Often during times of struggle, especially when I am struggling with my mental health, I remind myself to stop and soak up the sun’s healing energy. Sometimes I tell my friends, “Let’s go photosynthesize today.” It is a reminder for me to give myself the care that I need and deserve. Like all my artworks where I utilize found objects or “trash,” I hope to inspire people to see their darkness as a source of strength. I want to challenge what we define as “trash” and see the potential in materials and ourselves, especially in this disposable consumerist system.

Love the new artwork in my office and living room. It lifts us up everyday, acts as a conversation piece in Zoom calls, and we love the most being able to support artists in our communities as well.
